A lot of the work I do at AntBiz Consulting involves wandering around the web in search for new ideas for web promotion and web design.I accidentally went today to this website: www.SpreadFirefox.comYes, I did get there by accident (seen a button on one of Mishoo's sites - my best friend) and wanted to know what it is about. I cannot believe the community that has been created since the first time I used Firefox :)I use FireFox (Thanks to Mishoo, either) since it was at version 0.8 and I have to say that I am more than happy with this browser. But, let's take it step by step.1. What is FireFox?Well, according to my knowledge Firefox is an open source Internet (Web) Browser.Well, if you wonder what an internet browser is, you really need to download and use this. Why? Because I'm sure you are using a very flawed one that is already built in your Operating System, which is almost sure a version of Windows.2. Why choose FireFox?Well, first and most of all maybe, it is a hell of a great browser and it is free.I will tell you the story of me choosing Firefox:"About one or two years ago some problems started to really annoy me: Pop-up windows on my monitor, weird behaviour from my OS (windows, of course).

I was sure that I had some kind of virus - spyware and adware, actually - but everytime I got rid of it, a new one appeared, or those that should have dissapeared appeared again.Well, the only way of being sure that you have no viruses that I know is keeping your computer shut down. I should have done this, but a man's gotta eat sometimes, isn't it? :) Well, then I chose the next best thing: Linux Operating System, RedHat 9 at the time, to be more precise. Unfortunately, one of my clients needed something done in windows and I had to go back to that infamous Operating System. This time, yet, I didn't want to be surfing and getting all kind of spyware and adware, I wanted to get rid of pop-up windows, I wanted to have a free taskbar (I use to open 20-30 websites at one time), I wanted something that I could modify and add functionality to my needs. The solution? Of course, FireFox."Probably most of you have the same problem (I heard that windows put a pop-up blocker in their windows XP sp2, but I don't think that will do any better, anyway, as their browser SUCKS!!!!).Well, why not download FireFox then and give it a shot.3. Firefox AdvantagesWell, this is where I have a big problem: I don't know where to start.

:)Let's see the advantages in the order I needed at the time:?I just mentioned the above Pop-Up Blocker, a great customizable one, that really kept me away from adware and spyare, as from that annoying pop-up windows with ads that had a powerful sound that scared the hell out of me at night when I was working. :(?Tabbed browsing: I am able to open as many tabs as I want in a window. Imagine, you have three subjects of interest: open first instance with 10 tabs about that subject, open the instance with 7 tabs about second subject and so on. You don't have to look for every window in a 30 windows stack. Trust me, it is a good time saver.?Toolbar Search: I use Google a lot.

Well, I have it in my bar, at a press of a key. It is the same with Ebay, Amazon and IMDB, sites that I search around without having to actually enter the address. There are a lot more to choose, but these are the ones that I need. Oh, Yahoo, too :)?Themes: Did you get tired of the same colours? Choose in about 100 themes available or create you own! yes, you can create your own theme. As an example, I use Little Fox theme, which leaves me a lot of free space on my screen, as it uses small icons and fonts.?Extensions: Now, this is something so good, that I will make a new subchapter for it.

?CSS compliant: Well, for those that are interested, CSS in FireFox looks exactly like the way it is intended to look. Those that don't understand, don't need to :)?Plugins: Flash, Javascript, any plugin you need. Easy to install and use.?Mozilla ThunderBird: It is the email client that pairs with FireFox. My default mail manager, actually. A great one, you should download that too.?Included Download Manager.4.

FireFox ExtensionsWell, this is the cherry on the cake. Let me tell you what these are: ways of improving functionality of your browser. You think you don't need something more?? Well, I thought so until I tried some.I have now these extensions on my computer:?WebDeveloper's Toolbar: Man, I can't live without it now. It shows me anything I need about a website: outlines block elements, table cells, shows table dimensions, image dimensions, clears cache at a press of a button. Really, there is so much to tell about it that I couldn't stop talking for a day.

You really have to try it. Download it here!?Google PageRank: Well, it is one of the most important elements you have to know about your website. I was very happy to see that it is actually both graphic and numeric, so you really know the PR.?Fireftp: You won't need another FTP client ever.?cuneAform: for those HTML editings that you have to do fast on the site.?Download Manager Tweak: A tweak that enhances the download manager already built-in Firefox.?Maybe one of the most important, unfortunatelly: ieview - lets you view a page in IE (bleah). I have to use it in order to check the pages against this browser. Those that need it, know its importance. These are only few of the improvements you can make to your site.

All you really need is go there and choose those that better suit you.Well, I hope that this is enough to make you download Firefox and give it a chance. It will only take 10-15 minutes to fall in love with it and quit your old browser. This article is my modest contribution to Mozilla's well being. I hope to see Firefox 10 :)Contact us in order to find more about it..

If recent news stories concerning worms, trojans and security exploits within Microsoft's Internet Explorer, left you feeling vulnerable, this will leave you terrified. PC's the world over are already being hit by a new breed of trojan type software called Rogue Dialers. More malevolent than most ordinary spyware, Rogue Dialers actually hijack the computer's modem and then uses it to dial-up a premium rate telephone number, racking up huge telephone charges. Many Dialers operate whilst the victim is actively surfing the Net by dropping the current connection and then performing an automatic reconnection via a premium rate number. Most scary of all are the Dialers which connect themselves to a premium rate number while the victim is away from their machine, achieving this by detecting long periods of inactivity. Most "infections" of Rogue Dialers are contracted by the "drive-by download" method, where-by the dialer software is automatically downloaded from a webpage without the victim ever being aware.

This method of installing software onto a users PC was pioneered by the online adult services industry as a way of putting spy and adware programs onto a customers PC without them knowing. Originally confined to adult websites, drive-by downloads of spyware used to be known as the Electronic Pox; a risk the end-user took when visiting adult websites. Of course, just like the first pop-up box, also developed by the adult industry, the rest of the Internet was soon to follow. Thanks to a glaringly obvious design flaw in Microsoft's Outlook Express, which allows emails, including those containing HTML and embedded malevolent code, to be previewed without any warning, Rogue Dialers can be placed onto a victims PC without them ever going near a website. Rogue Dialers are just the next generation of electronic misery which can be inflicted upon the end-user.

Unfortunately for any victims, Rogue Dialers hit the pocket and they hit it hard!In America, one victim of a Rogue Dialer scam racked up some $500 in charges after their modem was hijacked and a premium rate number was contacted on just six occasions. In the UK too, numerous victims have reported huge telephone charges, with some in excess of ?1500 ($2800).The consumer website, Bad Business Bureau has received over 1300 complaints from victims of this latest scam and, while this whole matter is being investigated by Federal Trade Commission in the States and by the Office of Fair Trading in the UK, scammers are already responding with new software which dials numbers in countries where trade controls are lacking.A further blow has recently been delivered to UK based victims with announcements from the leading telecoms providers, BT and NTL that they are "not responsible" for calls which have been made fraudulently and that customers will not be exempted from any charges incurred.Protecting Yourself & Your WalletFirewalls and and anti-virus software WILL NOT provide protection against Rogue Dialer infections. The "drive-by download" method of introducing a Rogue Dialer onto a PC normally involves an ActiveX script and users advised, at the very least, to set their browser settings to either disable ActiveX or warn of its existence. For a more professional approach to protecting your modem, StopItNow, an Australian based software company has released a specific Rogue Dialer killer which retails for just $16.95.To avoid having a Rogue Dialer dumped onto their computer via the preview pane of Outlook Express, users may want to consider an alternative email client such as the freeware program, Eudora.Related Links:

http://www.badbusinessbureau.com
http://www.stopitnow.com.au
http://www.ftc.gov
http://www.oftel.gov.uk
http://www.eudora.com
.

Microsoft has developed a anti-spyware and anti-adware strategy. Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) is now available for download, which is their first step toward combating the ever growing threat of security vulnerbilities that are created by spyware software and adware software. For more about Microsoft's Anti-spyware beta software see our site:http://www.free-spyware-removal.net/spyware.htmThe question is, will they be able to effectively eliminate this every growing threat?Until they officially release their finished anti-spyware program, you might want to look at Webroot's Spy Sweeper Solution. Webroot was just awarded their third straight PC Magazine Editor's Choice Award."The best just keeps getting better," said PC Magazine Reviewer Konstantinos Karagiannis in the January 12, 2005 review of Spy Sweeper v3.5. "The latest version, 3.5, with its slight but effective improvements, is easily the best choice for protecting PCs from spyware and for cleaning infected machines."For more about their spyware remover and adware remover, see our website.http://www.free-spyware-removal.net/spyware.htm.

The US House of Representatives has recently passed the "Spy Act" - or to give it its full title - the Securely Protect Yourself Against Cyber Trespass Act. This aims to prevent software companies from installing spyware on users PCs without their knowledge, and anyone found guilty of breaching the act faces a fine of up to $3 million.Does this mean the end of spyware as we know it? Unfortunately the answer is no, not really. The problem is that most spyware can continue to operate in exactly the same way as it does now, by asking the computer user to agree to a licence before it installs itself. The majority of people who are faced with a lengthy legal-looking page of text when installing a new program, automatically click the "I Agree" option without reading the terms. Therefore spyware programs can quite legally continue to piggy-back their way onto PCs.Add to this the fact that a large percentage of spyware originates from outside the US, and it quickly becomes clear that the Spy Act realistically has about as much chance of success as the Can-Spam act did in attempting to stop the deluge of junk email that arrives in our mailboxes every day.Spyware can be a lucrative business for advertisers and software vendors, and with the average home PC already carrying around 26 spyware and adware programs, it's a problem that looks set to become worse before it gets better.

In time, additional international laws may reduce the problem, but for the present at least, every PC user should keep up-to-date anti-spyware software running on their machine..

Spyware, what it is and what it does. Basically, spyware is a program put on your computer usually after you have downloaded some kind of program or went to a certain site. Once this program is on your computer, depending on what kind was put on, has the potential to monitor what you're doing without you knowing it.Besides having the ability to track your Internet surfing, it can also change the settings of your computer, and display unwanted advertising. Kinds of Spyware include, Adware, Malware, parasiteware, and other kinds of software.A lot of these Spyware applications are bundled with other applications such as shareware and freeware, and as I said, you usually don't know you have it. Some of these Internet pests have the ability to gather your e-mail address, passwords, and even private credit card numbers. Many of these programs send the information it gathers information to third parties who in turn send you a lot of advertisements, hence the word Adware.

This is also why you can get a tremendous amount of pop-ups.The only real solution is to get a very good Anti-Spyware program. There are many of them on the market, and is well worth getting one. Once you have some kind of Spyware program, you'll always it and can run it anytime you please. That's basically what Spyware is all about..

Also, you might want or download a program that has some nice features, but also installs program code that can send information out without your knowledge."By tracking and publicizing the growth of spyware, we can better educate consumers of its risks and encourage them to take steps to protect themselves and their families while online," said Christine Stevenson of Webroot, which conducted the scans.People concerned about what might be lurking on their machine can download software such as the popular Zone Alarm, Pest Patrol, and Spybot to disinfect their computer.Lawrence Andrews is a software developer, consultant and author of numerous books.
